PERSIMMON

All listed varieties are self fruitful

 

CHOCOLATE

Small to medium size, oblong, bright red skin. Sweet, spicy, firm brown flesh, superb flavor—the choice of connoisseurs. Astringent until ripe. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.

 

COFFEE CAKE (NISHIMURA WASE)

Ripens one month earlier than Fuyu.. Unique spicy-sweet flavor. Non-astringent when pollinated. Eat while firm. Requires another persimmon variety as pollinizer. 200 hours.

 

FUYU     

Medium size, flat shape, still hard when ripe, non-astringent. Cool or hot climate. Hardy, attractive tree, practically pest free. Fall harvest. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.

 

GIANT FUYU

Larger not as flat as Fuyu. Crunchy when ripe like Fuyu. Sweet, flavorful, non-astringent. Fall harvest.

 

HACHIYA

Large, deep orange-red, acorn-shaped. Hot summer required to mature the fruit. Sweet, flavorful, astringent until soft-ripe. Mature fruit can be frozen and thawed to ripen. Productive, ornamental. 200 hours. Self-fruitful.

 

IZU

100 chilling hours. Very sweet, tasty, non-astringent fruit ripens about 3 weeks before Fuyu. Medium to large, round shape. Relatively small tree, good for backyard Persimmon.

 

MARU

Medium size, red-orange round fruit. Glossy skin. If cross pollinated, flesh is dark cinnamon color and seeded. Very sweet, rich flavor, excellent quality. Non-astringent.

 

SAIJO

Medium, elongated, yellow fruit. Gourmets claim it to be the sweetest and best tasting of the persimmons.

Astringent. Medium tree height. Ripens in November.
