ORANGE

 

BERGAMONT

Hybrid of unknown origin. Possibly a sour orange/sweet lime or lemon cross. Rind and foliage are very aromatic. Oils from the rind are used to make perfume and flavor Earl Grey tea. Small-medium fruit. Juicy, bitter flavor. Holds well on tree. Slightly spreading, upright form.

 

CARAS CARA PINK NAVEL

Fruit bears January - May. Sport of Washington Navel

Deep pink-red internal flesh. No seeds. Flavor mild and sweet. Easy to peel.

 

CHIRONJA

Rare and unusual. Thought to be a hybrid between an orange and grapefruit. Fruit is larger than an orange but smaller than a grapefruit. Deep rich gold flesh, dark yellow to yellow-orange skin. Sweet-sour, lemon flavored taste. Easy to peel, thick, loose skin. Limited availability.

 

FUKUMOTO

Fruit bears mid October-February. Navel-type orange, reddish-orange rind, excellent flavor, dark green foliage, sweet and juicy. Seedless. Medium sized tree.

 

LANE LATE NAVEL

Fruit bears 60 days after Washington Navel starting in February. Excellent flavor, sweet and juicy. Easy to peel, no seeds. Standard 20-25’, Semi-Dwarf 8-10’.

 

MORO BLOOD

Fruit ripens January - April. Darkest red of all the Blood Oranges. Sweet, juicy, deep red flesh. Few to no seeds. Standard 15-20’, Semi-Dwarf 8-10’.

 

ROBERTSON NAVEL

Fruit ripens November-April. Excellent flavor. Ripens earlier than Washington Navel. No seeds. Standard 20-25’, Semi-Dwarf 8-10’.

 

SANGUINELLI BLOOD

Late ripening blood orange. External color in the brightest red of the blood oranges. Small-medium, egg-shaped fruit. Few seeds. Holds well on tree. Small to medium size tree, compact and productive.

 

SHAMOUTI (JAFFA)

Fruit bears mid-season. Similar to Valencia, but reported to be sweeter. Easy to peel, light orange, slightly oval-shaped fruit, large leaves. Nearly seedless

 

SEVILLE SOUR ORANGE

Used for its essential oil in flavorings and perfume. Extremely tart. Rind used for making marmalade and liqueurs. Medium sized tree to about 10-15’

 

TAROCCO BLOOD

Mid-season Italian blood orange variety. Ripens between Moro and Sanguinelli. Produces rich-flavored fruit w/ berry overtones

Medium-large fruit. Few seeds. Holds well on tree. Easy to peel. Medium-large, open tree.

 

TROVITA

Believed to be a seedling of Washington Navel. Capable of producing high quality fruit in both hot desert and cool coastal climates. Pleasantly sweet flavor. Vigorous, tall tree with dense dark foliage. Tends to bear heavily in alternate years. Few seeds. Peels fairly easily. Standard 20-25’, Semi-Dwarf 8-12’

 

VALENCIA

Fruit bears April-October. Excellent flavor

Best juice orange. Few seeds. Standard 20-25’, Semi-Dwarf 8-10’

 

VANIGLIA SANGUIGNO BLOOD ORANGE

Unusual flavor tastes like sweet vanilla perfume, not orange-y at

all! Lightly blushed reddish-pink inside, classified as an acidless

blood orange. Fruit is about same size as Valencia. Has seeds.

Ripens as early as fall and holds well on the tree until spring.

 

WASHINGTON NAVEL

Fruit bears December-May. Excellent flavor. Best commercial navel ‘eating’ orange. No seeds. Standard 20-25’, Semi-Dwarf 8-10’
